Galatians 5:22-23 - “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.”

Joy is not happiness.

Happiness is circumstantial—it’s tied to what’s happening around us. Joy runs deeper. It’s not dependent on good weather, good news, or good fortune. Joy is a fruit of the Spirit, which means it grows in us regardless of what’s going on in our lives.

The Source of True Joy

Jesus said in John 15:11: “These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full.”

True joy isn’t found in possessions, achievements, or circumstances. It’s found in relationship with Christ. When we abide in Him, His joy becomes our joy—not a shallow happiness, but a deep, abiding contentment that persists through trials.

Joy in the Hard Times

James 1:2-3 tells us: “Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness.”

Joy in suffering? It sounds counterintuitive. But when we understand that trials produce character—and that nothing can separate us from God’s love (Romans 8:38-39)—we can find joy even in the fire.

The Fruit That Draws Others

Nehemiah 8:10 says: “Do not be grieved, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.”

When we carry genuine joy, it becomes a beacon. People notice. They wonder how we can have peace in chaos, hope in despair, joy in hardship. The answer points back to our Source.

Prayer

Lord, let Your joy radiate through me. Not fleeting happiness, but the deep, abiding joy that comes from knowing You. Help me find my strength in Your presence, not in my circumstances.
