Scars Don’t Own Me: When Pain Becomes Purpose

Healing is not forgetting — it’s choosing to keep going.

Todays song is raw. Honest. Its about the messiness of healing, the weight of past pain, and the courage it takes to trust again.

Its called Scars Dont Own Me and it speaks directly to anyone who has ever felt broken by their past.

The Lyrics That Hit Different

Im learning love can be slow.
It can wait till Im ready.
That my hands can still hold.
Without shaking so heavy.

That is vulnerability. That is what real love looks like when you have been hurt.

Im learning trust as a seed.
Cause some people earn it slow.
Others let it slip.
And cutting off poison dont make me cold.
It makes me alive.
It makes me whole.

Yes. Removing toxic people, toxic situations, toxic thinking does not make you cold. It makes you alive. It makes you whole.

Cause Im more than a battle that tried to erase me.
More than a pain that thought it could break me.
Its okay if I aint okay tonight.
Scars might have built me.
But they dont own me.
They dont define the man that Im going to be.

What This Teaches Us About Love

Today we are focusing on Love (Galatians 5:22). And this song gets it right:

1. Love is patient.

Im learning love can be slow. It can wait till Im ready.

Real love does not rush you into healing before you are ready. God is patient with us. He waits.

2. Love means setting boundaries.

Cutting off poison dont make me cold. It makes me alive.

Love is not tolerating abuse. Love is not staying in toxic situations. Sometimes love means removing yourself from harm.

3. Love transforms pain into purpose.

Scars might have built me. But they dont own me.

Your past does not define you. Your scars are not your identity. They are your testimony.

A Prayer for Today

Lord, thank you for loving me where I am. When I am not okay, help me remember that it is okay to not be okay. Give me the strength to cut off the poison in my life. Help me trust again at Your pace. Remind me that my scars do not own me — they are just part of my story. In Jesus name, amen.
