The Fruits of the Spirit

An original poem

When the Spirit dwells within my heart, He plants a garden, a sacred art, Nine precious fruits begin to grow, A harvest only His love can sow.

Love is the root, the foundation laid, The tender mercy that never fades, It gives and gives without a trace, A reflection of the Master’s grace.

Joy is the sunshine after rain, A steady hope that nullifies pain, Not based on what the world may bring, But rooted in the eternal King.

Peace is the calm amid the storm, A quiet whisper that keeps us warm, When chaos rages all around, In Him, tranquility is found.

Patience is the waiting room, Where faith endures and virtues bloom, Like Abraham who hoped in delay, We trust God’s perfect plans and way.

Kindness is the helping hand, That reaches out across the land, A gentle spirit, warm and true, Doing the good that others do.

Goodness is the path of right, Walking in truth with all our might, Not just avoiding what is wrong, But seeking good the whole day long.

Faithfulness is the steady flame, That burns for Jesus and His name, Through every trial and every test, We remain in Him, wholly blessed.

Gentleness is strength refined, A humble spirit, soft, refined, Like Christ who called the weary near, We wipe away the fallen’s tear.

Self-Control the guard within, That keeps the flesh from ruling sin, A disciplined heart, a watchful mind, The Spirit helps us to be kind.

So let these fruits grow in your soul, Let His Spirit make you whole, For when we abide in the Vine, These fruits in us forever shine.

For the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. — Galatians 5:22-23
