Losing Time, Gaining Perspective

Well, here we are—Sunday night, and we’ve officially “lost” an hour to Daylight Savings Time. That’s always a strange feeling, isn’t it? One minute it’s 1:59 AM, and suddenly it’s 3:00 AM. An entire hour, gone in the blink of an eye.

But you know what? Maybe that’s not such a bad reminder on a day like today.

The Gentle Art of Letting Go

We spent this Sunday exploring gentleness—that often-overlooked Fruit of the Spirit. And honestly, losing an hour today feels like a gentle nudge from the universe:

Time isn’t something we can hoard. It’s something we give away.

When we practice gentleness, we’re practicing the art of letting go:

  • Letting go of our need to control
  • Letting go of harsh words we want to speak
  • Letting go of the frantic pace we think we need to keep
  • Letting go of an hour we’ll never get back—and being okay with it

A Gentle Sunday

I hope your Sunday was filled with moments of gentleness:

  • Maybe it was the gentle warmth of morning coffee
  • A gentle conversation with someone you love
  • The gentle peace of worship or reflection
  • Or even just the gentle reminder to breathe when life felt overwhelming

Gentleness isn’t weakness. It’s strength under control. It’s the power to be harsh—but choosing kindness instead.

The Hour We Lost

That hour we “lost” today? It’s not really gone. It became part of the fabric of our lives. Every moment we live becomes part of our story—including the moments we don’t remember, the hours that slip away, the time we give to others in gentleness and love.

God doesn’t waste anything. Not even a lost hour.

Nighttime Gentle Reflection

As we close out this Sunday and prepare for the week ahead, let’s ask ourselves:

  • Where can I be gentler with myself?
  • Who needs a gentle word from me this week?
  • How can I slow down and move through the world with more grace?

The world will tell you to be aggressive, assertive, loud. But the Spirit invites you to something different:

“Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near.” — Philippians 4:5

A Gentle Goodnight

So tonight, as we adjust to the time change and prepare for whatever Monday brings, may you rest in gentleness. May you be gentle with your expectations, gentle with your fears, and gentle with the person looking back at you in the mirror.

You made it through another Sunday. That’s no small thing.

Sleep well, friends. The Lord is near.

P.S. — If you’re feeling that lost hour tomorrow morning, be gentle with yourself. Coffee helps. Prayer helps more. Both together? That’s gentleness in action. ☕️🙏
