The Wonderful Blood

There is something profoundly joyful about a hymn that has carried believers through generations. Today, I want to share one that embodies the Fruit of the Spirit - especially joy - in a way that few songs do.

The Wonderful Blood is more than a song. It is a declaration of what Jesus accomplished on the cross, and it is a reminder that His blood still has power today.

Why This Song Brings Joy

Joy is not just happiness - it is a deep, abiding confidence in God’s goodness, no matter what circumstances surround us. This hymn captures that truth perfectly.

When we remember:

  • The blood that was shed - for forgiveness, for healing, for freedom
  • The price that was paid - so we could be called children of God
  • The victory that was won - death defeated, life restored

…how can we not have joy?

The Fruit of the Spirit Connection

In Galatians 5:22-23, Paul lists the Fruit of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

This hymn touches on several of these:

Fruit How This Song Expresses It
Joy Celebrating redemption through the blood
Peace Resting in the finished work of Christ
Faithfulness God’s promise sealed in blood
Love The ultimate sacrifice for His enemies

A Personal Reflection

There are days when joy feels distant. When the weight of life presses down and worship feels hollow. But songs like this - songs rooted in truth, not emotion - anchor us.

They remind us that joy is not based on how we feel. It is based on what Jesus did.

The blood is wonderful because:

  1. It cleanses us from all sin (1 John 1:7)
  2. It redeems us from the curse (Ephesians 1:7)
  3. It reconciles us to God (Colossians 1:20)
  4. It empowers us to live by the Spirit (Hebrews 13:20-21)

Let It Sink In

Take a moment. Listen to this hymn. Let the words wash over you. And let the joy of the Lord rise up in your heart - not because everything is perfect, but because Jesus is enough.

The joy of the Lord is your strength. - Nehemiah 8:10
