The Foundation
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.” — Galatians 5:22-23
Yesterday we explored goodness as part of our Fruits of the Spirit series—but we accidentally skipped kindness! So today, we’re going back to cover this beautiful fruit that pairs so closely with goodness. While goodness speaks to moral excellence, kindness is the warm, generous expression of that goodness in how we treat others.
Morning Devotional: Kindness in Scripture
“But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great.” — Luke 6:35
“But when the kindness and love of God our Savior toward man appeared, he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy.” — Titus 3:4-5
“She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue.” — Proverbs 31:26
How We Can Apply Morning Devotional: Kindness Today
- Speak encouraging words to someone who is struggling—they may need it more than you know.
- Perform a random act of kindness without expecting anything in return—hold a door, send a text, buy someone coffee.
- Show patience in difficult conversations, remembering that kindness sometimes means choosing gentleness over being “right.”
- Forgive someone who has hurt you, just as Christ has forgiven you.
- Offer a listening ear to someone who needs to be heard—sometimes kindness is simply being present.
- Share credit and celebrate others’ successes instead of competing for recognition.
Critical Thinking
Where in your life might you be holding back kindness because you expect something in return, or because you’ve been hurt before? What would it look like to extend kindness freely today, trusting that God will handle the rest?
🙏 Prayer
Lord, teach me to show kindness as You do—freely, generously, and without conditions. Help me to be a vessel of Your love today. In Jesus’ name, amen.
