Patience (Makrothymia)

The Lord is not slow in keeping His promise. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish. — 2 Peter 3:9

What It Is NOT

  • Grudgingly waiting while seething inside
  • Biting your tongue and suppressing frustration
  • Passive resignation

Gods Perspective

Patience is long-suffering love that bears with others weaknesses without resentment. It reflects Gods own patience with us — not complaining, not retaliating, trusting Gods timing.

Biblical Example

The father in the Prodigal Son parable — watching and waiting year after year, then running to embrace his rebellious son the moment he returned.

Practical Application

  • Pause before reacting in frustration
  • Remember how patient God has been with you
  • Listen fully before responding
  • Trust Gods timing in difficult seasons

Reflection Questions

  1. Who or what tests your patience most?
  2. How has God shown patience to you?
  3. Where do you need to trust Gods timing?

Prayer

Patient Father, transform my hurried, frustrated heart. Help me reflect Your longsuffering love to others. Teach me to wait well. Amen.
