Gentleness (Prautes)
Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart. — Matthew 11:29
What It Is NOT
- Weakness or timidity
- Never standing up for yourself
- Avoiding all conflict
Gods Perspective
Gentleness is power under control — strength with care. The Greek word was used of a wild horse that had been tamed; all the power, now under direction. Its approaching others with humility and tenderness.
Biblical Example
Jesus with the woman caught in adultery — He had the power to condemn, but instead offered grace and truth: Neither do I condemn you. Go and sin no more.
Practical Application
- Lower your voice when others raise theirs
- Consider others feelings before speaking
- Handle difficult people with care
- Be teachable and open to correction
Reflection Questions
- Where do you tend to be harsh instead of gentle?
- How can you show strength with tenderness this week?
- Who needs a gentle response from you right now?
Prayer
Gentle Jesus, tame my wild edges. Teach me to be strong yet tender. Help me handle others with the care You show me. Amen.
